Fire extinguishing systems with FM200 - HFC227 gas

Reference number: FSL227

FM200 (HFC227) gas fire extinguishing systems.

"FIRE TECHNICS" Ltd. is the official representative for the Bulgarian market of "Firetec Systems" Ltd - England.

Firetec Systems Ltd has introduced a system using an acceptable agent with zero ozone depletion potential (ODP). The system uses FM-200™ from Great Lakes Chemical Corporation. After extensive testing by Firetec Systems" Ltd. research scientists, FM-200® has emerged as one of the most viable replacements for Halon 1301.

■ HALONS - are extremely effective fire extinguishing agents for fire fighting. However, they are known to be dangerous ozone depleters. HALON production has been phased out in accordance with the Montreal Protocol, leaving many businesses and buildings unprotected.

The HFC-227ea (FM-200™) system meets the stringent criteria required for extinguishing agents used for extinguishing inhabited areas. The system complies with ISO14520, UNE23572, NFPA 2001 and EPA SNAP.

■ The HFC-227ea (FM-200™) system quickly and reliably extinguishes fires within 10 seconds

■ The HFC-227ea gas fire extinguishing system with FM-200 agent offers unique advantages over traditional gas agents. It is safe for people, safe for equipment and is an environmentally preferred alternative to Halon.

The company "Fire Equipment" Ltd. offers FM-200™, which is safe for people. Extremely suitable for extinguishing fires in closed spaces requiring a high concentration of the extinguishing agent and at the same time the presence of personnel in it. They stop the combustion process within 10 seconds. at relatively high concentrations of oxygen in the air, where there is no risk to people, their normal activity and breathing are not disturbed. Most systems with FM-200 are designed with a concentration of 7.4%, while the standard allows levels of 50%. Currently, systems with the extinguishing agent FM-200 have the highest level of safety for people.

FM-200 is safe for the environment - unlike Halon, FM-200 does not contain chlorine and bromine and therefore has zero ozone depletion potential (ODP). Like many fluorine-based gases, FM-200 has a global warming potential. However, the overall effect is minimized by using a low frequency compared to other fire suppression systems, as well as the extremely low concentration required for release into the environment. In addition, when FM-200 fire suppression systems reach the end of their useful life, they can be reclaimed into a medium for use in other systems. FM-200 acts as a long-term insurance policy providing increased safety for people and property with minimal impact on the environment.

FM-200 is electroneutral, non-corrosive and leaves no traces. As a gaseous agent, FM-200 spreads rapidly within the protected area and extinguishes the fire. Operations can resume immediately after the fire damage has been repaired. FM200 is a clean fire extinguishing agent and leaves no traces or contamination after extinguishing that would cause damage or pose a problem for post-fire cleanup. This means less damage, security and minimal disruption to the technological process, reducing the potential costs of a possible fire.

The value of FM-200

FM-200 is intended to prevent and extinguish fires in situations where conventional extinguishing agents such as water, dry chemicals and carbon dioxide are unacceptable, as they can cause material damage, significant disruption to the production process or pose a safety risk. These situations exist mainly where there is electrical and electronic equipment, sensitive technological operations, the loss of which would not only be the value of the facilities, but also the cost of lost profits. Other situations include delicate or irreplaceable values such as those exhibited in museums, libraries and historical sites.

Normally, fires are extinguished by reducing the percentage of oxygen in the premises or cooling with water. However, FM-200 uses other unique mechanisms to prevent and extinguish the fire. The dominant factor is the ability of FM-200 to absorb, at the molecular level, the heat energy of combustion. When heat is absorbed, the reaction cannot be sustained and the combustion process is interrupted. FM-200 prevents and extinguishes fires at lower concentrations of the agent. This is due to the ability of FM-200 to form free radicals that chemically bind in a chain reaction to the combustion process, thus helping to terminate it. These mechanisms of FM-200 make it a truly unique extinguishing agent much more effective than inert gases. This high efficiency reduces the need for many cylinders requiring storage space, compared to other extinguishing agents.
