Description:
FirePro aerosol generators are devices that, when assembled in installations, are designed to extinguish fires based on a dry solid fire extinguishing agent consisting of potassium salts, which after activation is discharged as a dry aerosol. The generators are designed to extinguish fires of classes A, B and C. Each aerosol fire extinguishing installation is designed, installed and maintained in accordance with BDS EN 15276-2:2019 "Fixed fire extinguishing installations. Condensed aerosol fire extinguishing installations. Part 2: Design, installation and maintenance" and all auxiliary systems and components must comply with the relevant European standards.
Aerosol fire extinguishing installations consist of one or more aerosol generators depending on the specific volume of the protected room and the calculated amount of fire extinguishing agent according to BDS EN 15276-2:2019.
FirePro aerosol generators can have one or two discharge ports. They have an activation device designed to ignite the aerosol-forming compound and can also have various insulating materials to cool the aerosol before it is released into the protected area. The activation methods are as follows:
- Manual, by means of a button
- Automatic, by means of heat, smoke or gas detectors that are connected to a control panel
- Thermal, by means of a thermal activator that is activated at a preset temperature
The combustion process that generates aerosols provides sufficient energy for its rapid release and effective distribution.
Volumetric fire extinguishing with FirePro aerosol generators is primarily for protection against hazards that are in confined spaces, which will allow the appropriate condensed aerosol factor to be established and maintained for the necessary period of time to ensure effective fire extinguishing.
FirePro fire extinguishing systems are designed for use in industrial facilities and buildings, energy facilities, warehouses, garages, electrical panels.
Components:
FirePro aerosol generators consist of the following main components:
- Electrical conductor
- Electrical housing
- Thermal junction housing
- Electrical initiator
- Solid aerosol-forming substance
- Metal housing
- Cooling material
Installation of the systems:
Installation of FirePro aerosol fire extinguishing generators in volume extinguishing installations must take into account the materials involved, the nature of the anticipated fire and the geometric characteristics of the enclosed space, each of which may affect the quantity and release from the generators. Suitable brackets or other means of securing the generator(s) must be provided.
Location of FirePro Aerosol Fire Extinguishing Generators:
The number and size of condensed aerosol generators shall be appropriate for the protected enclosure in terms of maximum area, distance covered and height limits as described for each generator size.
Aerosol generators and accessories shall be located to provide access for inspection, testing and other maintenance when required.
Aerosol generators shall be suitably mounted and secured in accordance with the installation manual to allow for convenient individual servicing of the generator.
Aerosol generators are normally located within the enclosure they are protecting. Some applications may require the generators to be located outside the enclosure.
Aerosol generators shall not be located where they will be exposed to extreme weather conditions or to potential damage from mechanical, chemical or other causes. Where there is a possibility of damage or unauthorised interference, suitable enclosures or protective devices must be provided.
Aerosol generators must be suitably located to ensure that the possibility of damage due to heat generated by the discharge is minimised. The relevant minimum clearance for the type of risk being protected must be strictly observed.
In order to minimise the possibility of lifting or shifting of light ceiling coverings, safety measures must be taken to securely fasten the covering tiles located directly in the path of the aerosol discharge.
There must be no combustible materials or equipment within the minimum distance from the discharge outlet of the generator as specified in the description.
Operating conditions:
In operation, the operating conditions such as temperature, humidity and vibration must be within the ranges specified by the manufacturer.
Recommendations for mounting FirePro aerosol generators:
The following recommendations apply:
a) generators should be positioned in such a way that the direction
the aerosol discharge path is free from obstructions and does not cross any escape route;
b) if there are openings which cannot be closed, such as exits, doors and gaps, the aerosol discharge must be directed through the area of the probable fire and not towards these openings;
c) if there are any obstacles which could obstruct the free escape of the aerosol, it is advisable to install several small generators instead of one large unit, if the design constraints for smaller units allow such a replacement. If this is not possible, the distance from the nozzle to the obstacle must be not less than the minimum distance specified in the description. In the case of more obstacles, the design application density must be increased, the increase being determined by preliminary tests carried out in the rooms in question;
d) the aerosol generator must be installed in such a way that an unobstructed escape of the aerosol is possible. The manufacturer must specify the minimum distance from the generator outlet to the first obstacle.
Inspection and maintenance of FirePro aerosol fire extinguishing generators:
At least once a year, or more often when necessary, all installations must undergo a basic inspection and test for correct operation.
The inspection report, with the relevant recommendations, must be handed over to the user.
The inspection date, the date of validity and the name of the company that carried out the inspection should be written on a label attached to the aerosol generator.
Empty aerosol generators must be collected and recycled or disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner in accordance with existing laws and regulations.
At least every 6 months, all aerosol generator assemblies must be visually inspected to verify that:
a) the generator housing and switching devices are undamaged;
b) the generators are securely mounted;
c) the generators are free from corrosion;
d) the service life does not expire before the next scheduled inspection;
e) the discharge path from the generator is free from obstructions.
If aerosol generators are installed in a separate housing that is part of the listed set, the purpose of this point is to inspect the housing. Empty or expired aerosol generators that have been removed for servicing or maintenance must be collected and recycled or disposed of in an environmentally sound manner in accordance with existing laws and regulations. The date of the inspection and the name of the person who carried out the inspection shall be recorded on a label that is affixed to the aerosol generator.
The installer must provide the user with instructions for use that specify the requirements for inspection and training of personnel in safety measures.
The user must implement a programme for inspection, draw up a maintenance schedule and maintain records of inspection and maintenance.
The continued ability of the fire extinguishing system to operate effectively depends on adequate maintenance procedures and, where possible, periodic testing. The installer must provide the user with a logbook in which details of the inspection and maintenance can be entered.
User inspection schedule:
The installer must provide the user with a schedule for the inspection of the system and its components. The schedule must include instructions on the action to be taken in the event of a fault.
The user inspection schedule is intended to detect faults at an early stage, allowing them to be rectified before the system has to be put into service. A suitable schedule is described below.
a) Weekly: Visual inspection of the hazard and tightness of the enclosure for changes that could reduce the effectiveness of the system. A visual inspection must be carried out to ensure that there is no obvious damage and that all operating controls and components are correctly adjusted and free from damage.
b) Monthly: Check that all personnel who may operate the equipment or installation are properly trained and authorized, and in particular that newly recruited personnel have been instructed in their use.
WARNING: If the device is not designed for occupied spaces, always operate the switch to disconnect the installation before entering the protected space.
Maintenance plan:
The maintenance plan must include requirements for periodic inspection and testing of the entire installed installation, including aerosol containers, as defined in the relevant standards.
The plan must be carried out by a competent person who must provide the user with a signed and dated inspection report, notifying him of any repairs carried out or required.
During servicing, all safety measures must be taken to avoid the release of the extinguishing agent.
Training:
All persons who control, test, maintain or operate fire extinguishing installations must be trained and appropriate training must be maintained for the functions they are expected to perform.
Personnel working in the enclosed space protected by an aerosol extinguishing agent must be trained in the performance of the activities and use of the installation, particularly with regard to safety issues.
